ExploMar, the Chinese outboard manufacturer, has delivered what it says is the world’s first 300hp twin electric power-train system to an Italian customer and successfully conducted sea trials. This marks the first global application of the 300hp twin-engine electric power train system. An 11m (36ft) rigid inflatable boat, equipped with the WAVE 300 twin electric powertrain system, carried six passengers during the test and reached a speed of 38kt.
The 11m RIB, newly built and owned by the Italian pioneer in new energy marine technology AS Labruna srl, is equipped with two WAVE 300 electric outboards and two HEDB 125 batteries, delivering a total power of 600hp and a battery capacity of 250kWh, providing robust output power.
The WAVE 300 is ExploMar’s first electric outboard product, redefining electric outboard design with a ground-breaking approach. The company has applied axial flux motor technology to high-performance boats for the first time, achieving a 300hp power output in an electric outboard with lighter weight and a maximum output torque of 655Nm per unit.
Additionally, ExploMar has designed a custom gearbox and developed a patented closed cooling system, allowing WAVE 300 to achieve innovative breakthroughs in both performance and efficiency, accelerating the electrification of water mobility.
The HEDB 125 battery features high-energy-density NCM cells, with a capacity of 125kWh and a weight of 720kg. By utilising a dual thermal management system with battery heating and water cooling, the battery adapts to both high-temperature and cold regions, ensuring continuous high-performance output.
The WAVE 300 twin electric powertrain system delivers greater power, longer range, and optimally utilises the SmartCaptain system. Through distributed control of the two electric outboards, ExploMar offers users intelligent driving functions such as lateral docking and in-place turning, making boat handling safer, easier, and simpler.
Massimo Labruna, CEO of AS Labruna s.r.l., expressed great satisfaction with the delivered WAVE 300 twin electric powertrain system and plans to further adjust the RIB to fully exploit the twin system’s performance, aiming for even higher speeds (45 knots expected) in subsequent sea trials.
ExploMar CEO Dong Jiang says: “The application of the WAVE 300 twin electric powertrain system, with its outstanding performance and intelligence, marks a significant milestone in empowering the electrification and intelligence of boats. This WAVE 300 twin powertrain system can also be paired with a semi-solid-state battery solution for longer range, meeting the needs of more customers.”
In the future, ExploMar says it will continue to promote the electrification of water mobility through continuous technological innovation and product ecosystem development.
