Established in 1993, the association now has 123 members including most enterprises and institutions in Shanghai or nearby areas engaged in research, design, manufacture, repair, trade and teaching related to ships and supporting facilities. Founded in 1973, Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center (SSTEC) is a non-profit organization affiliated to Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality（STCSM）.
