LightLeaf calls itself “the most unusual solar panel company in the world”
Smartmarine BV of the Netherlands has signed an agreement with Canada’s LightLeaf Solar to distribute its products in Europe.
Founded in 2017 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, LightLeaf Solar designs and manufactures unbendable, lightweight, and durable carbon fibre solar panels. It signed a distribution deal for Europe with the Dutch marine electronics company after a successful introduction at boot Düsseldorf 2024.
LightLeaf calls itself “the most unusual solar panel company in the world.” In 2017, its manager, Rick Retzlaff, made a month-long, solar-powered boat trip through Puget Sound. The trip was a success, but the solar power solutions were not.
Glass panels proved too heavy and flat, and flexible panels were fragile and had to be pasted on. Drawing on his background in composites and battery-powered systems, Retzlaff developed an innovative solar panel that is ultra-light and super stiff.
The seaLeaf series even has an integrated railing mounting system; in addition to the seaLeaf, the gLeaf series is available. And unique is the option for custom solutions for maximum efficiency from the available space on board.
LightLeaf Solar panels are engineered to enhance your mobile experience. Its solar power technology combines rigidity and functionality with an unbending carbon fibre foundation, strengthening every panel without adding weight. The markets for LightLeaf panels are boating, camping and driving.
Its panels come in different versions: the dropLeaf (for small trailers), the gLeaf (general use), the uLeaf (ultimate lightweight), seaLeaf (for boats, easy click-on to railings, biminis and arches).
