Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has introduced the SX120, the largest model in its SX crossover series. The yacht represents a new direction in design and technology, moving away from traditional yachting concepts and underscoring Sanlorenzo’s role at the forefront of the industry.
The SX120 is the first yacht to feature the new IPS (Inboard Performance System) Professional Platform, developed by Volvo Penta and first revealed in Düsseldorf in 2024. This propulsion system uses twin 1,000hp engines per pod, delivering the power of larger engines while reducing overall footprint, fuel consumption, and emissions – supporting Sanlorenzo’s sustainability goals.
The yacht combines advanced engineering with modern design. Key features include a 70m² beach area with fold-down side decks, a 360° panoramic upper deck, and a sun deck with a configurable smart island. The beach area also incorporates a retractable swimming pool that can be covered or uncovered via a lift-and-slide mechanism integrated into the sundeck, enhancing versatility, privacy, and safety while underway.

A blend of the traditional flybridge motoryacht and the explorer yacht, Sanlorenzo’s SX line is designed to combine style, versatility, and functionality. The goal is to create a more engaging and contemporary onboard experience.
The SX120, consistent with the design language of the SX range, features sleek, sporty lines and expansive interiors that maintain a strong connection with the surrounding environment. With a volume of 270 gross tonnes and a length of 37m, the SX120 is the largest model built to date under Sanlorenzo’s SX concept.
“SX120 represents the natural evolution of a range that has changed the way yachting is conceived and redefined the experience of living on board, introducing a new idea of space, livability and connection with the sea,” says Tommaso Vincenzi, Sanlorenzo CEO. “The new flagship of the SX line combines functionality and aesthetics, simplicity and elegance, performance and sustainability in a single product.
“In addition, the SX120 is the first yacht of a big size to integrate Volvo Penta’s new IPS Professional Platform, a compact and efficient system prepared for the use of hybrid energy sources, and designed to improve performance, autonomy and comfort while sailing. This innovative propulsion platform allows for the achievement of certainly unique design solutions related to the use of efficient PODs drive even on large yachts.”
Once again, the balanced integration of exterior and interior design is the result of collaboration between Zuccon International Project and Piero Lissoni. Spread across four decks, the SX120 represents a complete rethinking of onboard space. With volumes shifted forward, the yacht features a spacious aft cockpit entirely dedicated to water-based activities. One of the most distinctive features is the 40m² beach area, which expands to 70m² when the side terraces are lowered. This open platform provides seamless access to the sea from three sides, enhancing the connection with the marine environment.
Integrated into the beach area is a pop-up swimming pool, concealed beneath a lift-and-slide sundeck mechanism. This allows the pool to be covered or uncovered as needed, ensuring safety and optimal conditions while underway.
A few steps up from the beach area is a lounge that serves as a natural extension of the outdoor space. The lower deck also includes four guest cabins – one of which can be used as an additional lounge or enclosed to create a cabin – a small hammam, and crew quarters.
The SX120’s expansive aft spaces are made possible by a major advancement in propulsion technology. This is the first yacht to feature Volvo Penta’s new IPS Professional Platform, introduced at the 2024 Düsseldorf Boat Show. Designed for modular integration of both conventional and alternative power sources, the system offers a compact, highly efficient propulsion layout. Its reduced space requirements free up valuable onboard volume, which can be repurposed to improve accommodation and comfort for owners, guests, and crew.
