Ares Yachts reveals intricate design details of its 62-meter flagship sailing superyacht, Simena. Currently in the outfitting stage at the Antalya-based shipyard, the vessel’s interior and exterior designs have been meticulously crafted by Taka Yacht Design and Design Unlimited, respectively.
Simena, a robust steel-composite yacht built to RINA Class C standards, showcases traditional laid teak decks and varnished Sipo Mahogany exterior joinery. The exterior lines, designed by Osman Tanju Kalaycioglu of Taka Yacht Design, seamlessly blend the classical with the modern, drawing inspiration from the elegance of a bygone era of sailing.
Accommodating up to 12 guests and nine crew members, Simena boasts an owner’s suite strategically positioned on the main deck. The vessel is powered by a sophisticated hybrid drive system, allowing silent electric cruising at 6 knots and reaching a top speed of 15 knots with a 4,000-nautical-mile range at 11 knots, thanks to a 882 kW diesel engine complementing the 220 kW electric motors.
Mark Tucker, Creative Director of Design Unlimited, describes Simena’s interior styling as “a relaxed and refined sanctuary fit for escapism and the entertaining of family and friends when required.” The design emphasizes guest comfort both at port and underway, featuring soft-edged furniture, generous handrails, and clean, relaxed geometry in guest accommodations and ensuites.
The interior seamlessly marries contemporary technology with traditional yachting values. Modern elements are discreetly integrated, such as hidden TV lifts in the saloon and master suite. The interior palette revolves around walnut, textured leathers, fabrics, and antiqued brass accents, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.
Elegantly-styled bathrooms showcase a blend of patterned tiles alongside Calacatta Oro and Patagonia White marbles. Feature finishes, including illuminated woven metals encased in glass and textual woven leather panels, add a touch of glamour without compromising the yacht’s serene ambiance.
As Simena progresses through various build milestones in Antalya, excitement builds within the industry for its completion. Osman Tanju Kalaycioglu, the exterior designer, reflects on the collaborative effort: “Each new stage of Simena coming to life, with its combined effort of hundreds of designers, engineers, technicians, and craftsmen creates a natural adrenaline spike for me.”
Ares Yachts, situated in Antalya Free Zone on Turkey’s south coast, spans 40,000 square meters of build space across four large sheds. Besides Simena, the shipyard is concurrently working on other projects, including the 50m motor yacht Spitfire and a 54m explorer yacht known as Project Atlas. Additionally, Ares Yachts is developing a 65-85m yacht range in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects.
