RAD Propulsion names new Finnish partner

RAD Propulsion, UK developer of the RAD 40 electric outboard, has announced that a Finnish company is producing a series of electric hydrodynamic boats that will be fitted with RAD 40 drives.

Valkama is planning to fit the drives on a number of models within Valkama’s 5m range, including the Picnic cruiser – a hydrodynamic boat with all the right properties needed for high-speed, long-range electric boating, with the look and feel of a bigger boat.

With electricity onboard it is equipped with yacht-like features such as a refrigerator, ceramic grill and high-quality sound system for an enjoyable, sustainable and reasonably priced electric boating experience.

“We have chosen to partner with Valkama not just because of their excellent boat range, but also because we have a very similar sustainable ethos,” says Vicky Farrow, RAD’s sales manager. “All Valkama’s electric boats are made of long-lasting aluminium and components that allow for easy refit and eventually are 100% recyclable at the end of their long lifetime.”

According to RAD Propulsion, the RAD 40 is smaller than its conventional equivalent and designed so that the motor doesn’t intrude onto the vessel’s deck space. The outboard remains behind the transom when tilted up.

It also offers exceptional control and manoeuvrability with full drive-by-wire controls and 180 degrees of steering available.

Antti Siiskonen, sales director for Valkama, says: “Working with likeminded companies such as RAD makes a real difference for us as boatbuilders. The team listens to our requirements and do what they can to make it work for both of us. It’s very refreshing to have a forwarding thinking partner, especially in this ever-changing sector of the market.”
