Arcona 50 to have world debut in Sweden

Following successful sea trials, the new Arcona 50 from Swedish sailboat producer Arcona Yachts is to have its world premiere this week at the Orust Sailboat Show with Open Yard from August 25-27. The Arcona 415e will also be on display.

The Jeppesen & Pons-designed Arcona 50 is easy to handle and steer

“Over the past month, the Arcona 50 been tested rigorously on the stretch of water between Sweden and Denmark, near the Arcona Uddevalla yard,” says Arcona in a statement.

The first test revealed just how easy the Arcona 50 is to handle and steer, the yard says.

The final commissioning test took place on Friday 11 August out of Fiskebäckskil. On board with Arcona CEO Urban Lagnéus were Niels Jeppesen, from Jeppesen & Pons yacht designers, and Simon Rosier from SE Yachts, the exclusive Arcona UK dealer.

With southerly gusty winds, tacking through the narrow Swedish waters of the Gåsö Archipelago demonstrated how easy the Arcona 50 is to keep in the groove where she settles around 8kt boat speed whilst pointing 27 degrees to the apparent wind direction.

“Never have I found 15 tons so easy to control,” Jeppesen said. “Playing with the electrical (optional) main sheet car (recessed below the cockpit floor), in the gusty winds, to fine tune the gentle rudder feel was the icing on the cake. I believe any sailor will enjoy that feature when real sailing pleasure is the priority.

”Sailing on open courses also gave me a seriously satisfying experience. All in all, I am extremely proud of Jeppesen & Pons’ first Arcona and we are looking forward to offering test sails to journalists and the market,” he adds.

Following the Orust Sailboat Show with Open Yard, the Arcona 50 will then sail to the Netherlands where it will be on display at Hiswa te water from August 30 to September 3, and then to the UK’s Southampton International Boat Show from September 15-24.
