Tony Castro unveils 48m motor-sailer concept with two different setups

Tony Castro has unveiled a 48-metre motorsailer yacht concept named Peregrine 48m: the smaller model in the designer’s new explorer sailing yacht series. The project, which takes several attributes from the larger concept Peregrine 75m released last month, has been designed as the “next step for a cost-effective expedition vessel” with “strong ocean-crossing capabilities”.

Inspired by the traveller bird of the same name, of which achieves “epic journeys travelling and crossing the planet”, the Peregrine sailing yacht series blends pleasure and comfort with scientific character, according to the designer, packed with living spaces on board which can transform from lounging areas to technical outlets for exploration.

Like the 78-metre concept, the 48-metre motorsailer has been developed with two different setups: the Explorer and the Luxe. The Explorer design combines modern amenities with specific features and spaces for extensive expeditions, while the Luxe design places focus on maximum comfort with a smaller yet capable “package” of expedition-oriented features. As one example, the Luxe variation hosts a tiered glass-front pool flanked by sunpads on the main deck aft, where the Explorer design is equipped with scientific containers to carry live fish tanks instead.

However, both varieties offer matching relaxed flybridge decks with a retractable bimini and twin steering, numerous al fresco living areas and accommodation for 10 guests in five en suite cabins on the lower deck.

Inside, the Peregrine 48m has an expansive main deck layout. An owner’s cabin lies forward, complete with a private office and library, a “full-featured” bathroom and dressing room, and a dedicated balcony. Amidships, there is a lobby and a central staircase, while the glass-walled main saloon lies to aft, opening to the aft deck with pivoting balconies and transom.

The upper deck houses a full-beam saloon inside, while outside, the deck can be equipped with either lounge sofas, sun loungers and water toys or research vehicles, scientific containers and a Jacuzzi, assisted by twin cranes.
