Australia’s first high-powered luxury electric carbon fibre yacht is about to be built

Riding a wave of global confidence and investment in electric propulsion, Australia’s first electric yacht, the Genevo E8, is about to start construction.

Genevo has been accepted into the Australian government’s Industry Growth Plan, validating the development of the project. Once the target number is reached, construction of prototype ships will begin.

A full-spec release of the Genevo E8 is likely to cost around $450,000 and includes a 1kw solar PV system on the ceiling, a cork deck, a 400kW electric motor and a 132kWh battery. According to its designers, the E8 can reach a top speed of more than 30 knots and has a range of about 45 nautical miles at 10 to 15 knots.

The fast charge takes only 2 hours, or one night at home, and the ship owner can choose to charge it on the bus charging post.
