The Superyacht Eco Association (SEA Index) has launched Phase III of its carbon-intensity rating tool to now include yachts over 25m, having previously been limited to 40m and above. Superyacht owners who use the SEA Index can now access independent CO2 certification issued by Lloyd\u2019s Register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Sea Index is a tool which, crucially, is in alignment with the IMO, that can help owners and charterers make more informed decisions about the energy efficiency, fuel consumption and emissions of comparable yachts,\u201d says Malcolm Jacotine, Founder Superyacht2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRating energy efficiency is one way the industry can demonstrate a more responsible approach to the climate crisis. It is applicable to new-builds and the legacy fleet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEA Index\u2019s model is based on the IMO\u2019s Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) index and was developed in collaboration with Lloyd\u2019s Register. The tool\u2019s aim is to provide yacht owners with proactive measures to make informed decisions when buying or chartering a vessel.<\/p>\n\n\n

Meanwhile, other organisations are working to promote a more carbon-efficient yachting industry. For example, Water Revolution Foundation has developed its own tool, YETI, for measuring carbon intensity across a vessel’s lifecycle. A range of these organisations will feature on Oceans Day at The Superyacht Forum in November this year, where a discussion will seek to establish a universal understanding of how to address the challenges that the superyacht industry faces in relation to sustainability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
